The Navy, 10 days out to sea. |
|
We have been working very hard on our most ambitious project to date. The Navy invited us on a VIP voyage of a lifetime to gather footage and information. The footage and still photographs will be used for a TV program, This NAVY a 13-part TV series. The assignment has turned into both an exciting and unforgettable project for the entire crew! A limited partnership made up of Ken Petretti, Jack Falzarano, and Jim Wynbrandt named NAVY PARTNERS produce, edit and write the shows. The Navy program follows a carrier battle
group on a live fire training exercise in the Atlantic Ocean in
preparation for deployment on station in one of the world's hot
spots. While the program showcases the awesome hardware and firepower
of the naval arsenal, the focus will be on the personnel and the
high tech skills they employ in getting the job done. The show
features a young host who conducts a tour of each of four Navy
ships.
To gather the needed information, we were given an invitation to spend over a week on board several Navy ships off the coast of North Carolina. They included several ships that have been in the news during the bombing of Iraq. While in North Carolina we interviewed hundreds of Navy personnel from mechanics to pilots, from crew chiefs to the captain and the admiral of the USS Enterprise, while they were training for Desert Fox. We interviewed Captain Chanik and Admiral Dawson of the USS Enterprise. Captain Chanik has since appeared on the cover of almost every major newspaper after the initial attack of Desert Fox and Admiral Dawson appeared on numerous news casts including a live interview form the deck of the Enterprise with Larry King.
We arrived onboard the USS Enterprise
by slamming down on the deck in a COD aircraft caught by an arrester
cable. Our crew spent three exciting days onboard and then went
by helicopter to the USS Nassau, an amphibious assault
ship. The ship is unique as it is equipped with Harrier jump jets,
Cobra gun ships, Huey Helicopters, C-46 Helicopters, LSC landing
craft, Tanks, HumVee's, Marines and more. After several days,
we moved on to the USS Thorn, a strike destroyer which
is equipped with cruise missiles, five inch guns, torpedoes Seahawk
helicopters and more. After two days we took off from the helicopter
pad and flew to the USS Mount Whitney, a flag ship commanded
by the US Navy as well as a number of NATO forces.
The Mount Whitney is a floating electronics platform where the
2nd fleet runs all of its missions. From the Mount Whitney we
returned by helicopter to the USS Enterprise just in time to put the equipment on board, suit up and be shot off the deck catapult at 128 miles an hour in three seconds.
